Limited-S uses a different approach than typical De-Essers, Dynamic EQs, etc. Limited-S does not use a traditional, and often “slurpy”, compressor-type Attack/Decay level detector. Instead Limited-S uses a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter that exactly calculates the envelope of the signal at all times. There is no need to fuss with attack and decay settings to get acceptable results. When Threshold and Ratio are set properly, de-essing action will be completely transparent in most cases. All you will hear is less sibilance.

Limited-S is a “fixed threshold” type De-Esser that works on peak signal levels much like a limiter. It does not attempt to track the overall signal and attenuate what it “thinks” is excessive sibilance. De-Essers of that type tend to overcompress leading sibilance (producing lisping) while under-controlling trailing sibilance. Limited-S, instead, only catches the loudest and most offensive sibilance peaks. (The threshold can be automated if desired). When used on stereo tracks, Limited-S can operate on the full mix, just the Mids, just the Sides or just Left or Right. This allows applications in both mixing and mastering such as de-essing of vocals in a master (typically centered) while leaving the sides untouched. Limited-S’s High Lift control allows adding brightness to a mix while simultaneously controlling excessive high frequencies. Great on vocals or for brightening a master.

Limited-S also includes a Sidechain input that allows one signal source to “duck” the highs in another signal source. MB3X is a mastering-class compressor/limiter with extremely low distortion and maximum musicality. MB3X uses multiple layers of program-dependent RMS level detectors for smooth, low-distortion “musical” results, while being very simple to set up and operate. The compressor has three fixed bands of compression separated by unique, constant-amplitude Bessel crossovers that produce very low phase distortion and NO pre-ringing. A single Threshold control sets the nominal threshold, which can be trimmed individually for each band via unique “tilting” trim controls, making it extremely fast to set up.

The MB3X compressor can be used to automatically balance the audible spectrum in applications such as Web Radio, or it can be adjusted to preserve the source EQ balance when used in applications such as mastering. SideMinder ME2 is an advanced and feature-rich version of the original SideMinder with up to three independent bands of stereo width control plus Bass Narrow control. Additional features include selectable input/output correlation metering, stereo/mono and normal/delta outputs for quickly auditioning SideMinder ME2’s processing. Also included is an “Advanced” control section for those who want to fine-tune SideMinder ME2’s Width Limiter section. SideMinder ME2 can be used to enhance and control the stereo width of mixed program material and can add a “3D” quality that has to be heard! As in the original SideMinder, SideMinder ME2 is not a compressor and does not affect the dynamics of your mix, only the stereo width. SideMinder ME2 does not add ambience, but instead emphasizes the width in the original source material. SideMinder ME2 now has an external sidechain input for a very unique way to “make a signal fit into the mix” - WIDTHWISE! In the same way that a compressor can be sidechained to reduce the level of the source signal in response to increases in the sidechain level, SideMinder ME2 can reduce the stereo width of the source signal in response to increasing width of the sidechain signal. (External sidechain requires a stereo signal, which is not supported in some DAWs.)

Features

Up to 3 bands with adjustable crossover points and level trims

Stereo width maximizer with "width limiters" to retain mono compatibility

Bass monoizer

System Requirements

macOS

OS: macOS

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AU, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Additional Requirements: Universal binary (x86 and Apple Silicon M1)

Internet: Required

Windows

OS: Windows

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Internet: Required

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0910/4090/7587/files/31832_7a76f808-a6ed-4a90-8d55-47638c12ea49.png?v=1766411501
sideminder-2
SideMinder 2

Big, wide stereo mixes are impressive, but they can fall apart when mixed to mono and played back on a single speaker. This can happen when the left and right channels contain out-of-phase signals that are partially (or maybe even completely) cancelled when mixed to mono. Many stereo enhancers can cause this—or make it worse—by pushing the left and right channels further out of phase. This out-of-phase state shows up as negative correlation on correlation meters. If your stereo mix shows up in the negative range on a correlation meter, it means that parts of the signal will be cancelled when mixed to mono. SideMinder 2 "listens" to the stereo material using lookahead FIR correlation detectors and dynamically narrows the stereo image precisely if/when negative correlation begins to occur. Since the stereo width is only narrowed when necessary, an overall increase in stereo width can be applied that remains MONO COMPATIBLE.

This effect cannot be achieved using typical "mid/side" compression techniques, and SideMinder also does not change the overall dynamics of the signal (SideMinder 2 is a "differential limiter", not a dynamic range limiter).

In addition, by seeing and hearing what SideMinder does to the signal, you can make better choices when mixing and mastering to produce the best-sounding result when it is played back on any system.

SideMinder 2’s width enhancer section includes a "Bass Mono" control that narrows the stereo image below the selected cutoff frequency. Traditional “Mid/Side” processing is often a misleading term for what is technically “sum and difference” processing. In this traditional approach, the “Mid” output is simply the mono sum of left and right (L+R), while the “side” output is the mono difference of left and right (L-R). Any signals that are panned hard left or right – which are in fact pure “side” signals – will appear in both the Mid and Side outputs. Meanwhile, the “Side” output is a mono mix that contains both the left and right sides. This is not how we hear stereo! “True Mid/Side” actually separates the phantom centre (what we hear in the middle of a stereo mix) from the stereo side signals. The stereo Side signals are separated into their respective left and right sides. All three resulting signals (Left-Centre-Right) can be controlled independently. Signals that are panned to the centre of the stereo mix (the “Phantom Centre”) appear ONLY in the Middle/Centre output, while signals that are panned hard left/right in the stereo mix appear ONLY in the Side outputs (and on the same side they appear in the stereo mix).

True Mid/Side can be used to extract and reproduce Middle/Centre and Side stems from a stereo track or bus, and can also be used on effect inserts and sends in your DAW during mixing and mastering for ultimate stereo field FX and control. All outputs are directly usable – latency-compensated and linear-phase – and do not require re-encoding back to stereo. Also included is a “Spread” control that allows you to choose the depth of the separation algorithm, while multiple output pins are available for DAWs that can support plugins with multiple I/O pins.

What is “Power Mono” mode?

A “mono” mix of a stereo track is typically just the left and right sides added together (also known as the “Mid” channel in traditional Mid/Side processing). This simple mixing process changes the balance of the mix: centre-panned sounds increase in level, while ambience and other side-panned signals are reduced in level. So what we hear in the “mono mix” is not the same as what we hear in stereo. True Mid/Side’s “Power Mono” mode produces a mono mix using true power summing that more accurately captures the balance and ambience of the original stereo mix. No matter where an audio signal is panned in the stereo mix, it appears in “Power Mono” at the same level (-3dB pan law). This process produces a significantly more accurate mono mix that preserves the original source mix balance. “Power Mono” mode can be very useful when monitoring a mix in mono, or for exporting high-quality mono tracks for post-production or other uses.

Features

True "middle/centre", stereo sides and left only/right only channel outputs

Provides 3 stereo outputs for DAWs that can support multi-output audio FX plugins

Variable "Phantom Centre" and left/right balance controls

System Requirements

macOS

OS: macOS

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AU, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Additional Requirements: Universal binary (x86 and Apple Silicon M1)

Internet: Required

Windows

OS: Windows

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Internet: Required

SideMinder ZL2 is a reduced-feature, zero-latency version of the 3-band SideMinder ME2, optimised for live sound applications such as club sound/EDM, where a wide yet solid sound is desired. Cans2Cones can help! What Cans2Cones does
Cans2Cones reduces the “superstereo” effect of headphones by generating cross-mixed Interaural Time and Amplitude Differences (ITD and IAD) for the left and right ear. This crossfeed is not the same as simple panning or reducing stereo width. It actually produces a sense of distance to the emulated “speakers” with subtle EQ changes and comb filtering that occur with real speakers in a real room.

What Cans2Cones does NOT do
Cans2Cones is not a "headphone equalizer". It does not attempt to correct any spectral imbalances in your headphones' frequency response, nor does it apply any "room correction" or room ambience. It assumes a flat frequency response in a heavily treated room with monitors positioned in a standard equilateral triangle relative to the listening position.

A unique feature of Cans2Cones is the "Dynamic De-Compression" control, which reduces the compressed, "in-your-head" sound that occurs due to the close proximity of the headphones' drivers to the eardrums. This decompressor “dries” the sound slightly, helping to emulate what you would hear with real speakers in a real room. Dynamic De-Compression helps the listener better assess the amount of reverb and compression in a mix, which is often exaggerated when listening on headphones.

Cans2Cones includes 3 “Quick Select” presets: "Near-field", "Mid-field" and "Far-field", which generate the apparent distance and frequency response of typical monitor speakers used in these positions. (The emulated distance can also be varied to other values with the Distance control.) A “Subwoofer” control is also included, which fills out the low-frequency response to provide full range on any of the “speakers”. When different distances are selected, the auditory perspective changes - just like moving monitors around in a real room!

Features

Variable speaker size and distance

"Subwoofer" high pass filter to emulate small speakers lacking a subwoofer

"Dynamic De-compression" feature reduces headphone compression effects

System Requirements

macOS

OS: macOS

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AU, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Additional Requirements: Universal binary (x86 and Apple Silicon M1)

Internet: Required

Windows

OS: Windows

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Internet: Required

The idea behind SubMassive is that "you can't EQ what isn't there". In the same way that harmonic exciters can be used to generate high frequencies for sounds that lack high frequencies, SubMassive can be used to generate low frequencies that do not exist in the source material.

SubMassive works by synthesising low-frequency audio one octave below the source audio using a high-quality pitch-shift algorithm optimised for low frequencies. The plugin uses audio information above the "Fill Below" threshold to generate audio information below the Fill Below threshold, adding "weight" to the source signal. The new low frequencies are therefore harmonically related to the source audio and closely coupled in transient accuracy. The generated LFE signal can be further adjusted to lead or delay the source signal, enabling unique sound modifications.

SubMassive can be used to:
•To create super-huge low end in EDM mixes
•To add "mass" to kick drums, snare drums and toms
•To make lead vocals, bass and guitars thicker
•To generate an LFE channel for post-production video
•To modify sounds using low-end time-shift effects

Features

LFE Level control

LFE Timing control

Mono or stereo LFE generation (when used on stereo tracks)

Output HPF

System Requirements

macOS

OS: macOS

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AU, AAX

Support: 64_bit

Windows

OS: Windows

Plugin Formats: VST-2, VST-3, AAX

Support: 64_bit

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0910/4090/7587/files/raising-jake-studios-submassive-plugin.jpg?v=1774524634
sidemindermax
SideMinderMax

SideMinder Max is the most advanced version of the SideMinder Dynamic Stereo Width Maximizer plugins.
