Chroma Bells is a collection of 12 tuned steel, brass and bronze bells from England, India, China and Tibet. Each one has a distinct bright or dark resonant character, offering fantastic variety to suit any arrangement.
They are excellent for creating full melodic compositions, accentuating percussive arrangements, or even as pure sound effects. We recorded single notes, sustained rolls and special muted articulations, each captured with extensive velocity layering and round-robin variations for exceptionally dynamic, natural playability and beautiful acoustic realism.
There are three stereo mic positions that you can freely mix and save. You’ll find our classic ultra-close pair of large-diaphragm studio microphones for a dry, crisp and strongly present tonality. There’s also a widely spaced overhead pair of pencil omnis for a spacious room sound. Finally, just for fun, we used a pair of very rustic tin-can microphones, offering a raw yet somehow smooth mid-century vintage lo-fi flavour, with a warm midrange, dark tone and rounded transients.
