Description

LUX Orchestral Strings is unlike any product we’ve ever made. From the start, we set out to create something that felt as close as possible to being on the scoring stage. Our most ambitious library to date, designed so composers can be even more ambitious with their music.

LUX Orchestral Strings isn’t just another string library. It’s a 70-player symphonic string ensemble, recorded on a large scoring stage with unprecedented realism, warmth, and scale. It puts you right in the room with the orchestra.

LUX Orchestral Strings was created by composers for composers, with a professional workflow in mind.

Create Scores That Last

Do you remember the first time you sat in a cinema and the hairs on the back of your neck stood up? When the music gave you goosebumps before a single word was spoken. Film music has the power to thrill us, move us, and supercharge the story. Some of the most classic films are inseparable from their scores. Maybe it was the open brass fanfare of Star Wars, the menacing low strings of Jaws, or the magical shimmer as E.T. and Elliott flew across the moon. Those sounds didn’t just follow the story—they became part of the memory.

What Makes LUX Special

LUX Orchestral Strings was created with a composer’s workflow in mind. We shaped the sound and developed unique techniques to deliver the most natural playing and composing experience. Effortlessly switch between articulation sets tailored to different styles and let your creativity flow. Experience a sound so authentic, it feels like you’re standing right at the heart of the orchestra.

S.A.T. – Seamless Articulation Transitioning

In most libraries, articulation changes sound like separate recordings, not a continuous performance. Real musicians play differently—they naturally flow from one technique to another. A sustained note becomes a tremolo simply by increasing bow speed, with no pause or restart.

S.A.T. brings fluid movement to LUX. Move between articulations while holding a note, and let phrases evolve with the natural expressiveness of a real performance. A gentle key switch creates a gradual shift, a stronger one a faster change—giving you true instrumental flow right at your fingertips.

70-Player String Ensemble

LUX Orchestral Strings is enormous: not a small chamber group, not a scaled-down studio section, but a full 70-player symphonic string ensemble recorded with the size and power that defined Hollywood’s golden era of film music.

It delivers the perfect balance for modern scoring: bigger and richer than smaller 30–40 player sections, yet more detailed and versatile than oversized 90+ ensembles. It captures the cinematic weight of world-class film recordings while retaining clarity, flexibility and expressive nuance. Ideal for any professional composer.

Extensive Bleed Microphones – Done Properly

Only a few libraries offer a bleed option, and usually only in a limited way. With LUX Orchestral Strings, we wanted to capture the true experience of a full orchestral scoring session, so we took it much further.

In total, we set up 48 microphones. 26 were used for the main recording — tree, far and close microphones for the string sections. In addition, we added a further 22 close bleed microphones across the brass, woodwind and percussion sections to capture their natural spill into the strings. This recreated the complete orchestral recording setup, with every microphone you’d expect to find on a professional scoring stage.

Resonance That Lives and Breathes

With LUX Orchestral Strings, you can choose how much natural bleed you want in your mix, from just a hint of colour to the full character of the scoring stage. The result is bleed that doesn’t feel like an added effect, but like the resonance and interplay of a real orchestra in the room. Other libraries hint at it. LUX Orchestral Strings delivers it in full.

Morphing Articulations – Evolving Sounds in Real Time

LUX Orchestral Strings lets you do something sample libraries rarely achieve — shape articulations as if they were alive. Using the mod wheel, you can seamlessly blend between two or more articulations in real time. Sustains can melt into tremolos, sul ponticello textures can swell into shimmering atmospheres, and a staccato can transform into a powerful sforzando with a single movement.

Composer-Created Ensembles – Instant Inspiration

When inspiration strikes, speed is everything. LUX Orchestral Strings offers meticulously crafted ensembles, designed by composers who understand true orchestral balance. Sketch soaring melodies or driving rhythms in seconds, then refine them into detailed individual parts at your own pace. Flexible voicing and octave options ensure a full, lush sound—ideal for quick sketches or powerful supporting layers. These ensembles aren’t shortcuts; they’re engines of inspiration.

Key Switch sets for every musical context

LUX introduces something no other library offers: dedicated Key Switch sets tailored to specific scoring needs. Whether you’re writing an action scene, a lyrical theme, a soft texture or a melodic passage, you can load a single set that contains all the articulations you need for that context.

Natural String Change – Legato with the soul of a player

Real string players don’t cut notes off when they leap across intervals. As the bow moves, the previous string lingers, resonating for a moment longer and giving the phrase its natural flow. It’s a small detail, but it’s what makes a live performance so moving. For LUX Orchestral Strings, violinist and developer Jonas Meyer created Natural String Change technology, a system that detects when the next note would fall on a different string and lets the previous one breathe into it.
