SHINOBUE is a traditional Japanese transverse flute used for Shinto music, traditional festivals and education, depending on the key.
The Suzuki shinobue, also called takebue, is a Japanese transverse flute, or fue, with a high pitch.
It is found in hayashi and nagauta ensembles and plays important roles in noh and kabuki theatre music.
It is heard in Shinto music such as kagura-den and in traditional Japanese folk songs.
There are two styles: uta (song) and hayashi (festival). The uta style is correctly tuned to the Western scale and can be played in ensembles or as a solo instrument.
It is available in three keys: SNO-04(Bb) and SNO-03(B) are widely used for Shinto music and festivals, and SNO-02(C) is for playing in ensembles with other instruments and for education to learn Japanese singing.
