Introducing BOREALIS, MNTRA’s first FX plugin, designed as a new perspective on reverb with its unique approach as an ‘Animistic Performance Reverb’. BOREALIS stands apart from conventional reverbs by dynamically responding to your playing, fostering an inspiring dialogue between input and output. The plugin features a user-friendly interface with X, Y & Z Perform Animations as its main control screen, allowing you to focus on what you hear. But for those who love to tweak, a deep and complex control system lets you build your dream performance effect.

Inspired by the boundary-pushing world of guitar pedals and Eurorack effects, BOREALIS offers a wide range of inspiring time-based effects across its 14 algorithms, including multidimensional convolution reverbs sampled in epic and unusual spaces—from a lush church to the inside of a piano—shimmering, reactive algorithmic reverbs that stretch to infinity, and vintage modulated delay networks. At the heart of BOREALIS is its non-linear control system. Influenced by video game audio engines and the natural world, this system lets you dynamically perform a vast ecosystem of parameters—driven by your input signal, a deep modulation network and the 3 control axes.

BOREALIS’s modulation options are extensive, with three modulators and an envelope follower. The modulators, including Sine, Triangle, Square, Random, Stepped and user-defined shapes, let you create complex movement. The envelope follower derives control signals from your input, enabling responsive performances with adjustable attack, release, gain and threshold settings. Like a living, breathing organism, BOREALIS lets you go deeper, so you can modulate the modulators with each other and with the envelope follower, creating a network of intricate sounds.

As the icing on the cake, BOREALIS also includes a powerful mastering section with a parametric equalizer and dual-mode modern and vintage-inspired limiter. The modern limiter offers transparent IIR look-ahead limiting, while the vintage limiter emulates the classic 1176 Peak Limiter. This section lets you shape and “glue” both dry and wet signals, perfecting your overall sound.
