So, do you want to play your Guitars or your bass through two amplifiers at the same time? Great idea! The only problem is that it hums. And not just a little. In fact, it’s incredibly noisy. Fortunately, the Palmer saar Guitar Splitter box is here to save the day. saar separates the ground potentials of both amplifiers and prevents ground-loop hum when linking multiple amplifiers.
The Palmer saar passively routes the input signal to amp out 1, while an active FET switch branches the signal to amp out 2. This happens without any loss of sound, as the FET input has extremely high impedance. Amp out 2 is also isolated from the ground circuit via a transformer. Ground loops can be eliminated by pressing the ground lift switch.
The signal from amp out 2 is low-impedance and stable, so longer cable runs without signal loss are also possible. An important feature is the phase reverse switch for the second output. Signal polarity on guitar/bass amplifiers is not standardised. Two amplifiers running at the same time can be in phase or out of phase. In the latter case, the sound becomes unpleasantly thin – which can be fixed by pressing the phase reverse switch on the Palmer saar. Of course, you can also use the phase reverse function as a sound design tool if you want: the out-of-phase sound can sometimes be a really great creative choice!
