PI is an innovative, multi-channel phase interactions mixer plug-in engine for Mac and PC.

Good phase relationships are the key to a great-sounding mix. When tracks are summed in a stereo mix bus, instruments tend to overlap and interact with each other across the frequency range and phase position. A bass track can temporarily be out of phase with the kick or rhythm guitar track, and when summed together, the two instruments will cancel each other out over the overlapping frequency range, causing a temporary "hole" in the low end. Similarly, a snare track can end up sounding thin in a mix when the toms’ resonance is out of phase with the snare.

Introducing PI.

Designed to improve any mix, PI dynamically rotates the phase of individual mixer channels to achieve maximum phase correlation within the mix. PI minimises negative interaction and significantly improves the overall sound of the mix. Simply drop PI into the last insert slot of each of your DAW mixer channels and listen.

WHY PI

PI works to improve the sum of your favourite Digital Audio Workstation. PI minimises overlapping frequency cancellations between instruments within the mix, improves mono compatibility, and brings back the depth and focus that are lost when out-of-phase frequencies in the mix cancel each other out.

DYNAMIC PHASE ROTATION

Instruments with similar frequency content, such as bass and kick drum, can temporarily be out of phase and cancel each other’s fundamental frequencies. The resulting sound is often described as "thin" and "hollow". Because these interactions occur randomly across varying frequencies and to different degrees, this effect cannot be corrected using a simple, fixed phase rotator or equalizer.

PI continuously analyses the phase correlation of each track and dynamically adjusts their respective phases to achieve optimal correlation and preserve the full depth and timbre of the instruments in the arrangement.

PI uses a unique central background processor to analyse and process the phase position of each track with sample accuracy to achieve the optimal phase relationships in your mix in real time.

MULTI-BAND PHASE CORRELATION METER

PI’s multi-band Phase Correlation Meter displays the phase correlation of each frequency band as well as the overall phase correlation.

GROUPS & GLOBAL OPERATION MODES

Use one of the 64 groups to link multi-mic recordings or related instruments to further optimise their phase relationships in the mix.
