Stagebox

A stagebox is a sturdy metal housing used in the studio and on stage as the link between the mixer and the musicians.

Multiple microphones and other audio equipment can be connected to the multicable, thus functioning as an extension of the instrument cables used.

The stagebox with the multicable allows the mixer to be placed further away from the stage or musicians in the studio, while also making it easy when the connections are gathered in one place.

The stagebox is typically equipped with between 16 and 32 XLR female connectors. All microphones and musical instruments are connected to the stagebox, and the multicable connects the box to the mixer.

Stageboxes are often seen with 4 - 8 XLR male connectors installed, these are called returns.

These returns make it possible to send line signals back from the mixer to the monitor on stage, or to a separate mixer that controls the monitor on stage.

In many cases, it will be advisable to use an active or passive line driver, also called a DI box, to balance and possibly amplify the signal between the stage and the mixer.

Wireless transmitters from a microphone or guitar can be advantageously connected to the stagebox.
