An electric ukulele can actually refer to one of three types:

Solid Body Electric - which is essentially an electric guitar scaled down to the size of a ukulele.
Electro-Acoustic - which is a ukulele with a sound hole, designed with a piezo pickup, primarily intended to sound best when connected to an amplifier.
Acoustic with Pickup - which is a ukulele with a sound hole and an additional piezo pickup, primarily designed to sound best acoustically.

The Trend for Electric Ukuleles
