When you play with heavy picking, lots of bends and an aggressive picking technique, it’s often the thin plain strings that break first – typically down by the ball end. Ernie Ball 2242 RPS Power Slinky solves exactly that problem with RPS (Reinforced Plain Strings): a patented extra brass/bronze wrap at the ball end around the “lock twist”, which reduces breakage and helps prevent slippage. The result is greater peace of mind on stage and fewer string changes in the middle of rehearsal.

You get the classic Slinky feel and a familiar electric guitar tone: nickel-plated steel roundwound on a hex-shaped steel core delivers a clear, punchy, mid-focused sound with crisp attack, good definition and solid tightness in the low end. The set is uncoated, so it feels extra “fresh” and responsive under your fingers, and it’s made with a focus on consistency from set to set.

Power Slinky (11–48) is ideal if you want more tension and a thicker tone than typical 9–42 or 10–46 sets, especially for rock and metal, down-tuning, or simply a more stable feel for heavy playing. The gauges are .011–.048 (equivalent to approx. 0.028–0.122 cm in string diameter), and as always, it can be worth checking nut slots and intonation if you’re moving up in gauge from a lighter set.
