Ernie Ball 2564 Aluminum Bronze Medium is a complete set of steel strings for western guitar, developed for those who want more output, more clarity and a more “hi-fi” projection than classic bronze strings. The result is a punchy, focused sound where single notes stand out more clearly, and chords don’t blur together, even when you play hard.
At the core is a Maraging Steel hex core, which provides a firm, stable response and a clear attack, while the Aluminum Bronze winding (copper/aluminium alloy) delivers a pronounced low end with crisp, brilliant overtones. At the same time, you get improved corrosion resistance compared to standard bronze – without the slick “coated” feel – and the wound strings typically have a golden/bronze-like finish, while the plain strings appear steel/silver-coloured. The feel can come across as more direct and raw than coated strings, which many associate with more grip and articulation.
The set is Medium 13–56 and is especially suited to players who want more resistance under the fingers, more drive in the attack and a fuller tone than light sets. The gauges are 0,33 / 0,43 / 0,66 / 0,86 / 1,17 / 1,42 mm, making the set ideal for heavier strumming, solid flatpicking and players who want the guitar to “push” more air. Please note that the very clear and articulate character can sound extra bright/hi-fi on some guitars, and some users notice a rougher surface than coated strings as well as possible black residue on the fingers – especially at the beginning or with hard playing.
