If you're hosting a party, an event, or perhaps providing stage equipment for a concert, you'll need lighting! In the past, lights and lamps were always large, heavy monsters that were difficult to handle. Fortunately, that's no longer the case! Technological advancements have made it possible to create battery-powered lamps, which, as the name suggests, are powered by batteries, easy to handle, and do not compromise on light output and quality!

In this guide, we'll take a closer look at the different types of battery-powered lamps and what to consider when buying!

One Lamp, Many Uses

Battery-powered lamps come in many different shapes and forms. Whether you need spots, PAR lamps, or perhaps uplights, they're all available in a battery-powered version. Normally, lighting can be a labyrinth of cables of various lengths that need to be routed along stands, over floors, and the like. But not with battery-powered lamps, set them up, turn them on, and there's light!

However, where battery-powered lamps have their major advantages is in their mobility. They are easy to move around, and their (usually) small footprint means that one lamp can serve multiple purposes. This means that they are ideal for businesses involved in events, where there may be various requirements for different lighting setups, or for mobile discos that want to adapt lighting to as many different locations as possible without having to carry around extra equipment!

Light Output

One crucial factor when looking at battery-powered lamps is how brightly they shine. Many factors come into play here, including the effect you want to achieve with the light and the size of the location where they will be used.

Today, most lamps use LED to provide brighter light with less power. However, there is still a significant difference in the amount of power the light outputs. Therefore, always look for the wattage of the lamp. As a rule of thumb, the higher the wattage, the brighter the light!

Many battery-powered lamps today offer the ability to adjust brightness up and down via an app. However, the maximum output cannot be controlled from the app, so always purchase a lamp that you are sure can meet your maximum requirements. You can always dim the brightness, but you cannot increase it beyond the maximum.

Battery Life

When dealing with battery-powered products, it's obvious that they won't shine forever before they need to be recharged. Battery life is one of the most important things to consider when purchasing battery-powered lamps.

Battery life varies greatly between different types of lamps but will often range somewhere between 5 and 10 hours, with some lasting up to 20 hours. Depending on your needs, pay attention to how long the lamp can run if you intend to use the color-changing functions of the product. Often, battery times are measured based on how long the lamps can shine with a fixed color; however, this time decreases if you use some of the options for changing colors, patterns, or flashing effects.

Also, be aware of the charging time for the products; it is not entirely insignificant whether your lamp can be charged in 3 or 10 hours if you depend on them and, for example, have two concerts or events on the same day!

Smart Lamps

Some battery-powered lamps have built-in app access. This means that you can turn on/off, change color, or adjust brightness directly from your phone. This feature makes your work of setting up lamps for even large events or in large venues extremely easy!

Some battery lamps can also be set up with DMX. You can read much more about DMX in our blog post: Getting Started with DMX!
