Green screen carpet with suspension loops for special Chroma Key recordings. Used primarily for live video recordings or post-editing where, for example, a different background needs to be placed behind, say, a tv host. Also used to combine two recordings for a broadcast.
The technique behind using a green screen background has been used for many years for tv and film production, but also for e.g. weather forecasts. The green colour is most commonly used as greenscreen as it has a hue that is far from most human skin tones. This makes the effects look most natural.
Various video editing software can be used to process the footage, such as: Autodesk Smoke, Final Cut Pro, Pinnacle Studio, Adobe After Effects
Green The screen technique is also called Chroma Key and you can read more about it on Wikipedia here
